“Judy L. Murray brings new murder mystery with local flavor!” by Cecil Daily

“Killer in the Kitchen is the second book in Judy L. Murray’s Chesapeake Bay Mystery series. I thoroughly enjoyed Murder in the Master, the first book in the series, as well as this one. Helen Morrissey, the protagonist in Murray’s first book returns in Killer in the Kitchen, along with her budding love interest Detective Joe McAlister. Helen is a successful real estate agent who has a passion for Twizzlers and mystery novels. She’s the kind of woman to whom readers can definitely relate. She’s down-to-earth, the mother of two adult children, independent, and, in general, the kind of woman I wouldn’t mind having as a best friend.

The plot involves Helen’s daughter Lizzie Morrissey who appears on a TV show with celebrity chef Roberto Barto. Roberto owns a lavish home which he decides to put on the market at which time Helen enters the picture. Unfortunately, before she can sell Roberto’s house, he drops dead while on the air after apparently ingesting an unknown substance.

Despite Joe’s displeasure, Helen begins snooping, er, investigating. She finds evidence possibly implicating one of Roberto’s colleagues as well as The Mob. In retrospect, the clues are all there but I have to admit that I didn’t see the ending coming. The only other thing I’ll say about the ending is that it was a great one.

One of Murray’s strong points is that she has a gift for creating characters that are interesting, multidimensional, and relatable. Another is that she’s skilled at creating plots that will keep you guessing. I eagerly await the third book in this series.” - Vine Voice

"...smart, fast-paced, beautifully written, and utterly charming. Five stars!"

“The grand opening of Captain’s Watch Bed and Breakfast in one of Chesapeake Bay’s historic mansions is ruined when the body of Kerry Lightner, a high-powered political campaign manager, is found in the pool house with fishing shears in her back. Is the killer a rival politician, an ex-lover, a jealous co-worker, or the ghost of missing harbor pilot Isaac Hollowell? When state senate candidate and B&B owner Eliot Davies becomes the prime suspect, his friend real estate agent-turned-amateur-investigator Helen Morrisey and her Detection Club of fictional women sleuths vow to solve the case—even if it means the end of Helen’s romance with Detective Joe McAlister. Peril in the Pool House, the third in Judy L. Murray’s award-winning Chesapeake Bay Mystery Series is smart, fast-paced, beautifully written, and utterly charming. Five stars!” Connie Berry, USA Today Best-Selling Author of the Kate Hamilton Mysteries

“A clever and well-plotted mystery, Judy L Murray’s latest Chesapeake Bay Mystery, Peril in the Pool House, is as appealing as the town where it’s set. When a candidate for state senate is suspected of murdering his difficult new campaign manager Helen agrees to help clear his name, only to learn that this murder echoes a fifty-year-old scandal involving Davies’ grandfather. Fans of this series will not be disappointed.” - Lori Robbins, award-winning author of the On Pointe Mysteries
